The Horoscope of the Fellowship
Just before midnight on 30th April 1989 we worked an open-air ritual at Hengistbury Head on the South Coast (an Iron Age fortified mercantile centre, although its use as a settlement stretches back much earlier than that) in which we formally established the Fellowship of the Dragon (marking the adoption of this, as then was, new name), and re-dedicated the group to the service of the Goddess.
In October of 1989, with the imminent transition of DragonCrafts into DragonsFire, and the also imminent departure of the group on "The Journey", we commissioned an astrologer to prepare a horoscope (using the "birth date" of the Fellowship's Beltane inauguration) for us. She was asked to prepare the chart for "D", not being told the identity of this mysterious "D" nor being given any indication that the subject would be an event rather than a person. She also actually knew very little of the Fellowship or our intentions and objectives, so there was much interest to discover what she would produce.
Thus it was with some surprise that we received a phone call from
her some days later, asking whether the horoscope she was preparing
was for a person or an event.
Amazed at her astuteness it was guardedly admitted that it would
be in fact for an event, and what difference did that make?
It seemed that the time chosen had not been the most propitious
and she therefore wondered if a) were the event repeatable, and
b) if so, would we like her to draw up a horoscope for a time
that would probably be more beneficial?
With our agreeing to this, she went on to say that she'd already
worked out two possible dates, the nearest of which being 23:27
31.10.89 - 00:10 01.11.89
This was a remarkable coincidence for, under pressure from numerous friends of DragonCrafts, we had started to organise some sort of Samhain celebration, and it now occurred to us that we could incorporate this "re-dedication" into the activities, with all our friends present acting as witnesses.
Herewith is the full text of that horoscope:
Chart for 11.27pm 31st October 1989 - 0.10am November 1989, Bournemouth, Dorset.
This is a Bucket shaped Chart, with the virtually exact applying conjunction of Jupiter and Chiron as the handle. A Chart with this shaping signifies that energies are directed to a single purpose. The handle shows the nature of the purpose. What drives the Bucket type is the achievement of objectives. The Jupiter-Chiron handle symbolises a Quest of definite socio-cultural impact. Optimism, enthusiasm, faith and abundance are keywords of the celestial interaction between these two planets. The conjunction signifies an upwelling of hope and expectation channelled toward the realization of a transcendant [sic] objective. Especially opportune phases of the Chiron-Jupiter cycle, times when the socio-cultural environment will be favourably disposed toward adopting (or at least tolerating) your aims and objectives, will be around November 1991 to March 1992, and around July 1992. This is when Jupiter forms its first positive aspect to the natal Chiron. The time around January 1994 will be just as good, as that is when Chiron forms its first positive aspect to the natal Jupiter.
The Sun in an applying trine to Chiron shows that conditions for starting to pursue the Quest were favourable. It shows a Quest that materialises as creativity and discovery in response to socio-cultural legacies such as tradition, religion and culture. The Moon exactly bi-quintile Chiron indicates conditions that favour the release of pent-up energies that can bring the dream of transmutation into concrete existence.
Saturn opposite Chiron indicates a time when adjustment and compromise had to be made, or else conflict would have resulted. The path to self-transformation is likely to lead to conflict with the socio-cultural environment. You must either compromise or face a bitter struggle as a consequence of pursuing the Quest.
Neptune exactly opposing Chiron indicates emotional and psychic confrontation. The Quest is conducted in full knowledge that the fact is that there are no facts - thus one knows that only subjectivity is real, that objectivity is an illusion.
Pluto trine Chiron indicates an opportune phase wherein there is an easing of the tension between the status quo and the archetypal force which seeks to force its way into being. The Quest is to express through will, daring and strength of conviction, a mass yearning for integrity, for certainty based on inspiration.
The Jupiter-Chiron conjunction is in Cancer, 11th house. Tradition and emotions are key issues. Attuned to the past, and deeply sensitive, "D" will either become a folk legend or an infamous one. Whether applauded or condemned by the judgement of time or peers, you believe deeply in what you do. The actions of "D", however controversial, stem from a deep conviction that what is being done will somehow make this a better world, right a wrong of long-standing, or prepare the way for some brighter day. Your mentors for this cause tend to be folklore idols, whose example inspires you to preserve and promote some cultural ideal.
There is an element of populism, an appreciation of values which have their origin in the masses. You are proud of your roots, and yearn to make others appreciate traditional cultural legacies. "D" will leave its mark. It may seem anachronistic, as if cast up from another time, but it is very much in the here and now.
The Quest is an emotionally charged revitalization of the past, and it will lead to the creation of a reality that will long be remembered.
There is a need to be at the cutting edge of the future. "D" is alienated from the present cultural environment and the drive is consequently to create a new world in some fashion or other.
The status quo strikes you as primitive at best, and you should not be long at a loss when it comes to improving the way things are. Social, political and intellectual matters are important, and "D" will take an active interest in these areas. However, it would be a mistake to think that the 11th house Chiron is a definite sign of intellectualism and/or socio-political involvement: art, science, ethics, technology, fellowship - all these and other related areas as well are the haunts of one with this placing.
"D" may seem in some way eccentric, but is in no small measure because it is bound and determined to be different. To remake the world after its own image is an essential part of the Quest.
Mentors are those who blatantly march to a different drumbeat, those whose eccentric or otherwise exceptional nature attracts attention and generates controversy. "D" will attempt to impose ideas and ideals onto the world at large.
Jupiter's influence here indicates much kindness, good humour and generosity. "D" should have many good friends and acquaintances, and is itself a good friend. The charitable and protective elements involved are strong and will be expressed. The objectives are of a high order, and will probably be achieved.
"D" was initiated at the beginning of the New Moon, an excellent time for starting new projects, the "planting of seeds". Growth should be admirable.
In the Chart, the Moon is in its own house, the 4th, giving it strength. Where shops are concerned, it is important to have the Moon well-placed in the electional map, as it relates to the general public. Moon in the 4th indicates that history or ancestry are further emphasised in the objective. It will promote the interest from the public in this area, and will attract those of the same interest. It is also possible that land and agriculture will play some part.
The ruling planet of the Chart is the Sun, which is exceptionally well-aspected (as well as nearly all of the other planets).
It is the functional element in the Chart denoting that the purpose is to make life better for others in some way. It has to do with teaching the young, providing something very special, and to lead others through the community and civic interests.
Cardinal and Water signs are emphasised, which is very good for getting projects off the ground, and shows sensitivity and feeling are strongly involved.
Mars is the first planet rising, and in the 3rd house, endowing "D" with energy and stamina, courage and active pursuit of its goals. The aim is to blaze new trails, but may well bring some conflict due to being an overbearing force.
The heavy emphasis on the 3rd house shows that communication is of utmost importance, without which the whole thing would obviously be doomed to failure. The 5th house emphasis shows great originality and creativity, and both houses emphasised indicate that, on the practical level of running a shop, books and artwork of a new, exciting trend should do well for the business.
Saturn conjunct Neptune in the 5th shows flair for business and politics, with excellent planning ability. There can be some conflict, with both materialism and idealism in evidence, but I believe that should work positively here.
The Vertex is conjunct Neptune indicating that major turning-points in the life of "D" will involve spiritual matters.
1990-1993 should mark an important period, during which Neptune and Saturn, and Uranus will pass directly over the Vertex, and Pluto will form an exact sextile to it, indicating positive change.
I arranged the Chart so that the heavy planets are on the upward cycle. This is so that development will be easier, and the timespan before they begin their downward cycle is of approximately 11 years for Saturn and getting on for between 40 - 120 years for the rest of them.
I shall proceed to explain the Development cycle, that is, the quadrant of a Chart between the 4th house cusp and the 7th house cusp or Descendant. With Saturn, Uranus and Neptune placed here, the future period of years is a time when new projects can be started, without the fear of the setbacks and difficulties which would interfere if the planets were in the preceding cycle. This is very much a time to drive steadily and undeviatingly ahead to pursue the goals, to apply hard-earned knowledge and gather added skills. Just how far and how swiftly you progress depends on how well you apply your knowledge, and by how much effort is put in.
When Saaturn moves into the Achievement cycle, results should come easily, provided only you have spent the previous cycle getting your act together. In many ways, this cycle offers the culmination of projects and ideas commenced during its predecessor, offering genuine success and satisfaction if you have disciplined yourself to these ends. The best way of describing the Achievement cycle is to say it is the time when all your chickens come home to roost.
Finally, I found it interesting to note that the Midheaven, which is symbolic of aims, is in the sign of the Earth Mother, Taurus. The Ascendant, Leo, ruled by the Sun, is symbolic of the Sky Father.
P.S. The Part of Secret/Private Enemies is in the 8th house. This means that enemies are likely to originate from the field of the occult or big business.
The foregoing caused us much excitement for it seemed a confirmation, a truly independent external verification, of all that had been suspected or concluded. A couple of chance remarks in the horoscope revealed that the astrologer had assumed the subject of her work was DragonCrafts yet, without her knowing of the inner trends of the Fellowship and that in fact the Fellowship itself was the subject, she had managed to identify features that must have caused her some considerable puzzlement, yet were of course crystal-clear to those "in the know".
