The Visions

The Dream

Picture to yourself a lush green meadow, bordered by sentinel trees heavy with leaf, sprawling blackberry and gorse offering home to finely-wrought silken webs dripping with sparkling jewels of dew. The verdant meadow slopes gently down to a clear-running stream, the sound of crystal water over smooth-worn pebbles in harmony with the breeze-stirred leaves, thrush and sparrow calling gaily to each other.

Now skipping through this rich, sweet-smelling soft green carpet comes a child, tousled hair and trusting eyes adorning unworried face, radiant with carefreeness and joy; daisy-chain grasped in dimpled hand, laughingly chasing butterflies and fairies.

The timeless wonder of a summer's day, blessed by Sun and graced by Life.

A free spirit, not trammelled yet by all the 'marvels' of modern life: the rejections, the humiliations, the disappointments, the constraints, the pressures of a forced education, the traumas of bitter parents, the endless chores, the career-chasing, the constant striving after 'things' that tarnish and break; the bills, the rules, the regulations, and so on, and so on, and so on.

In this way capture the essence of the Dream; in this way too, capture the essence of the greyness, and know where true responsibility lies.

This surely is the foremost responsibility of the Lady; to keep alive the essence of the Dream, so that the Knight has something worthy of protection, worth fighting for and striving for.
